Data privacy is still a fairly new field. The annual international Data Privacy Day (only 11 years old) commemorates the signing of the first-ever data-privacy treaty back in 1981. Most fields that young would still be the realm of a handful of experts. But today, data privacy is a common topic for everyday consumers and marketers.
