Ever have that moment where you tell someone what you do for a living, and it’s obvious they have no idea what you’re talking about? Us, too.

Wood cutter, baker, surgeon, ballet dancer … we can all pretty easily imagine those professionals in action, right? But what does being a marketing account director look like? At holiday dinners, how do you help Aunt Sophia picture your day as a strategic planner? And what the heck is a front-end developer, anyway?

LinkedIn has come up with a way to solve this problem: Bring in Your Parents (BIYP) Day. This past November 4 marked the professional networking site’s fourth annual parents day, and Intouch joined in. And because we’re staffed with talented project managers and event planners, we did it up right for the people who raised our amazing coworkers.

Over 80 parents came from surrounding cities and states to spend a half day with their adult children, whose roles at Intouch range from account services to creative to development. Activities included a tour of the office, presentations from several departments, including Account/Planning, Creative/User Experience, and Social and Content Strategy. Parents also had a chance to play with our virtual reality tools (fun!) and shadow their kids while they did their jobs (possibly not as fun). We finished the afternoon with a happy hour featuring chips and dips, a variety of pizzas, wine and, because we’re Intouch, beer.

Everyone had a great time, and we’re looking forward to hosting more parents next year!
