Innovative thinking is a big deal at Intouch, so when given the opportunity to participate in, facilitate or sponsor competitions that encourage coloring outside the lines, we jump at the chance.
On April 28, 2017, Intouch executive vice president David Windhausen and senior director of innovation and new technology development Abidur Rahman visited the University of Central Missouri – our CEO Faruk Capan’s alma mater – to act as judge and mentor, respectively, for UCM’s first Big Idea Business Pitch Competition.
The competition – for which Intouch was one of the sponsors – was the closing event in the Big Idea Program series UCM hosted during the 2016-2017 academic year. The series was designed to give student entrepreneurs opportunities to develop innovative business ideas, network and collaborate with mentors.
About a dozen students submitted pitches, and prizes of $3,000 and $1,000 were awarded to three UCM students:
- First Prize went to UCM senior Steven McBee for his health-related business idea.
- UCM junior Kraig Sumpter tied for second place for his social media consulting company, “21 Venture Social,” which launched earlier this year.
- UCM junior Cody Brill shared second place with Sumpter for his business, “Brilliant Grafix,” a custom racecar vinyl wrap business, which launched in fall 2016.
Congratulations to the winners, and kudos to everyone who entered and otherwise participated in this event. A big thanks, also, to UCM for hosting the competition — we’re looking forward to participating again next year!
