Cycling for a Cure
We have said it before and we will say it again. Intouch has an undeniable passion for philanthropy. Giving back and helping those in need connects us to our colleagues and clients. We are on the constant search for charitable opportunities. Here is one of the recent causes that has landed on our philanthropic radar.
History of The Ride
Thirty years ago, while on a long bike ride with his son, Will Munger, then the Executive Director of the Minneapolis Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, had an idea. Originally, his idea was a bike ride that would act as a fundraiser for the Minneapolis chapter. However, when over 200 cyclists signed up, raising $31,000 for the Minneapolis chapter, the idea received national attention. In 1985 the National MS Society endorsed BikeMS as an official event for all chapters. Today, at least one BikeMS event takes place in every state each year. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $1 billion to help combat Multiple Sclerosis.
The Kansas City MS chapter offers multiple ride options to appeal to a wide range of cyclers. Riders can choose between riding one or both days, with options of 38, 75, and 103 miles. Corporate sponsored food and snack stops are positioned every 10 miles as well as a team of volunteers to pick up exhausted riders. Riders who elect the overnight trip, are treated to a campout which includes music, food, and revelry.
Why We Ride
The reason for participating is unique and personal for every rider and volunteer. People from all walks of life, whether they have Multiple Sclerosis or not, are involved. From volunteering at a rest stop, to setting a personal distance goal for the ride, the level of participation is up to each individual. As an organization the purpose of the ride is to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research and other services supported by the National MS Society. With a common goal of wiping out Multiple Sclerosis, riders learn from and support each other to achieve their personal goals.
